“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION
“Peace is a matter of universal importance. It is therefore necessary to create awareness amongst people about the relation between peace and science and to recognize that the latter, if focused on peace, can give a positive contribution to the development of civilization.”
The “Medicine for Peace” program focuses on medicine, science, research, healthcare professionals, volunteer organizations, patients and their families, with the awareness that health is the result of a harmonious, natural and complete development of each individual in every aspect of their lives. Feeling peace, which is a fundamental need for every human being, is also an essential element of wellbeing.
“Medicine for Peace” takes its inspiration from the Bruxelles Declaration “Pledge to Peace” and wants to promote dialogue, considerations, actions and initiatives in order to draw attention on the topics of peace and wellbeing as fundamental element of the daily work and commitment of healthcare professionals.
Based on these principles, the initiative aims at becoming a platform for disseminating increased awareness of the fundamental needs of the individual.
“The call for peace has coursed through the veins and arteries of all times. It is a desire that has been amassed in the very heart of humanity since the beginning. Indeed, peace will be mankind’s greatest achievement.
To give the precious gift of life is eminently important. Life first. And then it becomes important to perpetuate the ways to enjoy it, to give the gift of peace to humanity as well.”
(Prem Rawat – Amabassador of the Bruxelles Declaration “Pledge to Peace”)
